Capital Campaign and Building Projects

This summer we are undertaking a major renovation of the exterior of the Church. This work includes repointing, cleaning, and sealing the building envelope. Scaffolding and sidewalk protection has gone up along 87th Street and work is getting underway on the exterior. We expect that the work will go through the summer and into the Fall and that we will be able to start seeing the splendid results by September.
We are all grateful to all those who have contributed to the Capital Campaign and who have made this essential work on the fabric of our building possible. Indeed, keeping our historic church watertight and in good condition is so important for allowing our worship and ministry to continue so that we may truly show forth God’s love here on the Upper West Side. If you want further information about this restoration project please speak with Scott McDermott or the Rector.
Update: October 24
The scaffolding has just come down and the building looks amazing!
Check back in the next few days for photos of our newly cleaned and repointed exterior.
In early June scaffolding and sidewalk protection went-up along the north, 87th Street, facade and wrapped around onto West End Avenue

Work began to restore the masonry, repointing old joints, and repair the roof flashing. All this work would ensure that the building would be watertight.

As of July 13, the contractors have completed the work of sealing the windows and restoring the exterior masonry, this included about 800 square feet of repointing. They have moved on to the cleaning of the walls and this work will continue for at least three more weeks.
At the end of August, as the work on 87th Street was drawing to a conclusion, the contractors erected scaffolding along the West End Avenue facade and have begun the work to seal, repoint, and clean the Western aspect of the Church.

Some of the scaffolding along 87th Street has now come down so that the ageing roof over the entrance vestibule can be replaced. This peeling away of the skeleton of scaffolding allows us to begin to see the dramatic difference the cleaning makes to the appearance of our lovely building.
